My Favorite Time To Visit The Beach Is At Night

It only took me 40 years to realize that I prefer to visit the beach at night. Better late than never. My husband has been telling me to do evening swims for a decade!! But who listens to their husband? Not me! That’s for sure.

Last week, my family got into the car and headed to a local beach for a twilight swim. If I am being honest with you, I wasn’t happy about it, but I went along with a plastered smile. We arrived and found not ONE soul on the sand. Usually, you fight for a square inch in my parts – so that was kind of cool. I did admit that. Driving into the parking lot, we also didn’t have to pay anything. After 5pm, I believe all tolls are waved. Again, in Long Island, that could save you up to $30!

Two checks for Bill.

I still wasn’t happy and completely holding onto my misery at this point. But the day wasn’t over yet.

When we unpacked the car, I noticed that Bill didn’t overload as usual. We didn’t need an umbrella, a cooler or anything requiring an icepack. So, no massive lugging. UGH – another win for him. All we really needed were two chairs and a few towels. It was magical. No major setup.

I guess when you only have 2-3 hours on the sand, you don’t need to stock up on life supplies.

The kids were in their glory. We dumped everything pretty much everywhere and ran right into the water. Bill and I stood at the edge and watched as the waves took our little ones on a journey. The sun was still in the sky but not strong enough to bring on any sort of migraine. It was perfect. Why haven’t we been doing this all along? Oh yeah… because I’ve been preventing the trips.

OOOOPPPSSSSS.

Point Lookout is a beach that is about 15 minutes away.  It’s surrounded by amazing restaurants, too. Next time, we plan on  carving time into our schedule to grab some dinner.  Long Island offers so much. It’s time I start accepting that I actually live here.

I mean – look at how happy my boy is! Sand in his toes. Salt in his hair. Freedom in his heart and no electronics in sight.
