The Importance Of Giving Back: One Warm Coat
My daughter is currently a Girl Scout going for her Gold Award. She is also receiving the sacrament of Confirmation this year. That means we have to submit several hours of community service to a few different organizations and I am so thankful for that. It is the perfect opportunity for me to instill in her the importance of giving back. When you help your community or another community in need, you are helping everyone rise together.
We are constantly looking out for new organizations to align with and I was so thankful to learn about One Warm Coat – a national non-profit organization dedicated to providing a free, warm coat to any person in need. The Northeast is right in the middle of a massive temperature drop. I honestly cannot imagine what it must feel like outdoors without the proper outerwear on. As a parent, as a HUMAN, I feel like I have to do all that I can to help anyone who is asking.
How Can I Get Involved With One Warm Coat?
There are several ways you can get involved. You can donate your own clothing – think about all the items you don’t really wear anymore!! There are people out there who would love those jackets, for sure. You could also host your own drive. That’s a great way to get your full circle involved. If you want to get a little creative, you could even create a donation box and place it in front of a local town hot spot. And just as an FYI, One Warm Coat will provide you will stickers if need be. They want to make it as easy as possible!
One Warm Coat has the goal of collecting 1 million coats this season.
Get Started Today
Visit the organization’s website for more information on how you can get started. Once you register a drive, they will send you all of the materials you need to host a coat drive, including a banner, box labels, stickers and more. Once coats are collected, they will be distributed within their community to any person in need, without charge, discrimination or obligation through the organization’s network of non-profit partners.
To donate a coat, search the One Warm Coat drive locator to find an active coat drive near you.
