Reorganizing Your Linen Closet: 6 Easy Hacks To Try Out

An unorganized linen closet can cause sheer chaos in the everyday household. That’s why it’s important to do what you can to keep your linen closet as organized as possible. Here are a few simple hacks to make the process simple and streamlined.

What Belongs In A Linen Closet?

A linen closet is a great place to store all of your bedding and bath towels. You can also keep other items such as tablecloths, napkins, and blankets – pretty much anything that needs to be stored in a cool, dry place. Just be sure to keep it organized so you can easily find what you need.

I recently decided to finally tackle this part of my house and headed straight to the Dollar Store to grab a few essential items I knew I would need to restack my towels and sheets in an orderly fashion. What did I grab?

What Can You Use To Organize A Linen Closet?

There are a few different ways you can organize your linen closet. One option is to use shelves and baskets. This will allow you to store items of different sizes while still keeping everything neat and tidy. Another option is to use hangers. This is a great way to keep towels and robes off the floor and within easy reach. You can also use hooks to hang things like aprons or cleaning supplies. Whatever method you choose, just be sure to keep things organized so you can easily find what you need.

Annual Habit To Pick Up

  1. Start by taking everything out of your linen closet. This includes all of the sheets, towels, blankets, and other items.
  2. Sort through everything and get rid of anything that you no longer need or use.
  3. Wash all of the items that need to be cleaned. This includes sheets, towels, and any other items that are dirty.
  4. Once everything is clean, put it back in your linen closet. Be sure to fold or hang things neatly so they will be easy to find when you need them.
  5. Take a look at your linen closet regularly and replenish it as needed. This will help you keep it organized and tidy all year long.

Benefits Of Cleaning Out Your Linen Closet

  1. It will make your life easier. You won’t have to search through a pile of dirty sheets and towels to find what you need.
  2. Your laundry will get done faster. When your linen closet is organized, you can grab what you need and get to work right away.

  6. You’ll have more space for other things. When your linen closet is free of clutter, you’ll have room to store other items.
  7. Your linens will last longer. Proper care and storage will help your sheets, towels, and clothes last for years to come.

6 Organization Hacks

Let’s break down a few tips that I used to really maximize my space. As you can see I have a very TINY closet. As a family of five who lives right next to the beach, this is a problem! But with some maneuvering, I managed to get the majority of my items back in without an issue. It’s all about the way you position your items.

Step 1: Roll your bath towels:

In order to maximize the space in your linen closet, be sure to roll up your towels and line them up alongside one another. Not only will you be able to see what colors are available to you every wash day, but you will be able to store more sheets per square inch!

Step 2: Get A Bin For Beach Towels And For Smaller Hand Towels

Instead of just creating stacks of your largest and smallest items on your linen closet’s floor, consider purchasing the right-sized bins for the job. I got both of these items at my local dollar store for $1 each. My hand towels and my beach towels each have their own home and the kids will know exactly where to find them when I ask for their help throughout the day.

Step 3: Store Laundry Detergent On Top

I love to use Tide PODS and have a bin in my linen closet for easy access. Laundry pacs are convenient, but they also have a concentrated formula. That’s why it’s important to keep all detergent away and out of reach from children. Remember to keep them up and keep them closed… because this will keep your kids safe.

tide pods

Tide PODS® is a 3-in-1 laundry solution, that consist of a detergent, stain remover and brightener all at once. You won’t need a lot of room in your linen closet for this addition. I have a tiny area on my top shelf for my favorite pods that are far out of reach from my toddler but easy enough for me to grab on laundry day.

And remember! Simply pop in one pac for most loads, but use two pacs for large loads and three pacs for extra-large loads.

Step 4: Keep Full Bed Sheets Together In A Pillowcase

No more searching for fitted sheets and mattress covers! Keep everything together and all in one place for easy access. Just grab a pillow and go! Make your bed with ease. You will thank me for this once a week for the rest of your life. This one is a game-changer.

Step 5: Keep Downy Unstoppables In Your Linen Closet

Want to ensure that your clothes have that long-lasting scent that you know and love from Downy? Be sure to wash your clothes with Unstoppables. Unstopables Premium Scent Booster with Fabric Conditioner is a liquid fabric conditioner that provides your laundry with luxurious, high-quality scent that lasts for weeks (out of storage), as well as first-class fabric conditioning that keeps fabrics feeling silky-soft. That’s right — even if you’ve washed those sheets a few weeks ago, they will still retain that same delicious scent that you smelled the moment you took them out of the dryer. BLISS!

As an added bonus, I love to keep a few Unstoppables in a small bowl on one of my top shelves so I can get a nice whiff every time I open the door. What a morning pick me up!

Step 5: Create A Storage System For Blankets And Kitchen Towels Too

Everything has its place in my linen closet.  I bought the appropriate-sized basket to accommodate every item on my list. Kitchen towels didn’t need much room but my blankets did. Now when the children put the laundry away, they can see right away where everything goes. Want to take this a step further? Label the bins! Go for it!

No matter how you organize your closet, be sure to start with products that treat your sheets and towels the ways they deserve to be treated. Tide PODS and Downy Unstoppables are the perfect match for any laundry situation.
