Meet The New Barbies: Curvie, Tall, And Petite

326787Today, Barbie announced the expansion of its Fashionistas doll line to include three body types – tall, curvy and petite – and a variety of skin tones, hair styles and outfits.

No more cookie cutter options.

When I was younger, my father used to tell me that I had “cannoli thighs”. He would slap my hips and tell me that I ate too many desserts. I would then pick up my dolls and think that maybe he was right. 30 years later, every time I think of those words … tears fill my eyes. Even as an adult. Even as someone who has her life completely together, there are things from my childhood that simply stir up the wrong emotions.

“Cannoli thighs” being one of them.

He also told me I should get cheek implants on a number of occasions… but we won’t get into that right now because that doesn’t really relate to these dolls.

If I had one of these dolls when I was younger…

If I had a doll that looked more like me then maybe I would have felt a little more secure about my shape. Maybe today I would feel a little more secure about my shape.

A positive body image starts at a very young age and I applaud Barbie for making these changes to their doll line.

The new 2016 Barbie® Fashionistas® doll line includes four body types (the original and three new bodies), seven skin tones, 22 eye colors, 24 hairstyles and countless on-trend fashions and accessories.

Count me in.
