The Return Of The Daily VLOG And A Recap From #TypeACon

I finally did it — I convinced my husband to get back on the VLOG train. It took a lot of coaxing but, we are there folks. WOOT. Here’s the deal though. We aren’t going to do 7 days a week like before… because that was insanity. Instead, we will work on a 3-day schedule. I’m excited people! It feels right.

Last week, we attended the Type A Conference in Atlanta. It was the first time I had the chance to mingle with the ladies and I have to say, I had a great time! I filmed a bit while I was there. Check out the above VLOG to see what it feels like to attend a blogger conference and walk through an expo. Plus, I tagged a few blogger URLS! So, you can learn about some new sites to visit.

Here are a few great takeaways from the sessions I attended:

  • Use Tailwind for Pinterest to help streamline your process
  • Create a Mastermind group where you can bounce ideas off of – keep it small (think 4-5 people).
  • Have a “Power Hour” when you post videos on YoutTube. Use it to communicate with your fans and leave comments on their channel. It’s important to engage.
  • Stay humble and present when your readers connect with you. Whether you have 4 fans or 4 million. It’s all about the relationships.
  • In the end, it’s all about lighting! If you can’t afford a fancy set up, a window will do. Stay away from yellow bulbs. Natural light is best.
  • Pod casting is everything! Do it. Embrace it. Load up tags and URLS and keywords in your description. You don’t need a lot to get started. Just a mic and ear phones. Audacity for PC and Garageband for Mac are great tools for editing.
  • Don’t ever forget to stay part of your community. Collaborate and collaborate often.
  • Treat every post, tweet, Facebook update as if it’s a gig. Everyone is watching. You’d be surprised who is casting through Periscope / Facebook etc.
  • Two great photo editing apps – Face Tune and PicTapGo.
  • When negotiating rates, don’t take anything personally. This is a hard lesson – but one that is important to remember. A gig is a gig.
  • Headline writing – descriptive words / stop you in your track words / NO FALSE PROMISES
  • Bloggers should use Reddit – make a sub-community or join one that already exists. (Note: I’m obsessed with reddit)
  • Make room for fun. It doesn’t always have to be WORK, WORK, WORK. (That’s a lesson I need to be reminded of every now and then.)

I had a great time! In fact, it was Bill’s first conference. He writes over on Guy and the Blog and I thought it was time to introduce him to the circuit! Up next? Dad 2.0! WOOT! Here we come!!
