Truthful Thursday: Social Honesty Starts With You #truthfulthursday

So, it’s been about 36 hours since I’ve landed in NYC and the jet lag has been manageable which is actually pretty shocking. Everyone told me that coming home from Asia would be a nightmare!!! So, I was expecting the W-O-R-S-T. I took a sleeping pill when I went to bed the first night home because China is 12 hours ahead and I wanted to get back on schedule ASAP. I think that helped.

I feel very blessed since returning home from China. I’ve always felt blessed … because I am. But this trip has taken that sensation to an entirely new level.

During one of my many conversations on this trip with locals, one recurring theme kept surfacing. People focus on many things and most tend to focus on what’s not important. The only questions you really need to ask yourself are:

“Are you happy? Are you healthy?”

Titles don’t matter. Wealth doesn’t matter. The size of your car, your home, or your bank account — all not important. In the grand scheme of things, the only two things that matter are your health and your happiness. But having marinaded in this thought for the last few days, I think I want to add two more questions to the mix.

“Are you happy? Are you healthy? Are you loved? Are you safe?”

I think if you can answer yes to all four of these questions … then you can be considered the richest person in the world. And for the most part, I CAN answer yes to all four of these questions. So in this very moment, I feel an overwhelming sense of peace and calm.

Normally, my shoulders are tight. My mind is spinning. My Type-A personality is pushing me in 100 different directions attempting to do too much and stretch me too thin. But I haven’t felt that way since returning home. Since reuniting with my family, it’s really been about looking at everyone in their eyes and recognizing the gift that I have in my life.

Travel provides many things to many people. Memories. Adrenaline rushes. Education. Bucket List check offs. For me, this last trip provided perspective. I saw so many beautiful things while in China, but I also saw some harsh realities and when I walked through my front door and my husband embraced me in his arms and held me tight, I realized right then and there that there truly is no place like home.

So, while it’s great to travel the world and see all that there is to see (and believe me, I will see it all before I leave this Earth), it’s also important to never lose sight of the simple truths of the world. Be happy. Stay healthy. Feel loved. Remain safe.
