Daily Diary: FINALLY Painted Our Brick Wall White
We painted our fireplace brick wall WHITE. I’m so HAPPY!!! When we first moved in, Bill and I talked about making this change but never pulled the trigger because there’s no turning back once you do! I don’t think there’s a way to get the paint off once you put the coat on.
(here’s a look at the original brick)
That thought ALONE has prevented us from moving forward with this dream despite not loving the way the color of the original brick worked with the rest of the room. You see, the brick wall wasn’t a deep red. It was a dull brown. The wall was actually an outside wall that was closed in to make an extension. It couldn’t have been an uglier color – even if we tried.
We made small adjustments throughout the year — lightening up the grout, switching out the mantel. Nothing mattered. That brick just didn’t sit well with me.
Finally, seven years later, we DID IT! And I can’t tell you how much happier I feel sitting in our den.
In case you want to paint a brick wall in your house, just know that we had to do two FULL coats and then patch bits and pieces once it set. Bill used exactly one gallon for this wall. He was scraping the sides of the can to get the last few spots covered. No kidding!! My husband ALMOST went back for another quart, but I convinced him it was fine as is.
We still have some decorating to do. It does look a bit sparse. But can I be honest with you? I really like it that way. I’m becoming a minimalist in my old age!! LOL.
