Scholastic’s Summer Reading Challenge: Grab A Book And Set Up Under The Stars #SummerReading

Scholastic's Summer Reading Under The Stars Program

We had so much fun reading with our friends under the stars last night in our backyard. You see? You don’t have to go very far to have an adventure. Not at all! Natalie invited a few of her girlfriends over and they picked out a handful of their favorite Scholastic books and hit the grass. The girls are all taking part in the Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge.  Now in its 8th year, the program is dedicated to stopping the “Summer Slide” and getting kids to read throughout the summer months when school is out.

Your child can log their reading minutes (online and on smartphones) as they Read for the World Recordenter sweepstakes to win fabulous prizes, and earn digital rewards when they complete weekly reading challenges. HOW FUN!!!!!!

Scholastic's Summer Reading Under The Stars Program

This year’s Summer Reading Challenge theme is “Reading Under the Stars” (powered by EVEREADY®). That’s why we took the party outside.

I gave the girls a picnic blanket, a few flashlights that were powered by Eveready batteries and allowed them to choose which books they wanted to focus on. The laughing and smiles…. well, they brought those all on their own. It was such a treat to watch them interact and talk about which part of their books were their favorites.

PS – when the playdate was all over, the kids went back outside and use their flashlights to find bugs in the dark. They captured them and then released them over and over again. Talk about summer fun!

  1. So many fun memories from my childhood were of summer nights in the backyard. Love that you took reading outside and incorporated it in their summer fun

  2. VERA! So fun–I love the girls reading on the blanket with flashlights–funny how something as simple as a flashlight makes reading more fun! Super partnership between Scholastic and EVEREADY!
