This Britax Marathon car seat review was really important for me to write because I understand how quickly we get through the baby phase. Car seats need to be able to grow along with our families, right? It’s not just about the moments when we come home from the hospital. Whether it’s the first precious little articles of clothing that you dress your baby in, or the bassinet by your bed in the first months of their life, eventually all things baby get outgrown, often too quickly. When it comes to the larger items, like a stroller or a car seat, it helps to have longevity in addition to quality, especially when it’s so painful to say goodbye to handy (and expensive) items. When I looked into the Britax Marathon car seat, I knew I was going to own it for several years.
Britax Marathon Car Seat Review – Able To Look Beyond The First Year
Finding myself in a bit of separation anxiety over a little pair of cute bootie pajamas that recently became too small for daughter, it’s become imperative that I get good use out of what we need for her. From the moment you step out of the hospital with your newborn, a car seat is a definite must, even if you don’t drive a car. I got to try out the Britax Marathon Convertible Car Seat and explore the features that make this one product that will last.
Like all infant car seats, the Britax Marathon Convertible Car Seat is intended to be rear-facing for babies 5 lbs, all the way up to 40 lbs. Unlike most infant car seats, however, once the child has reached their first birthday, and are 20 lbs, the Britax Marathon can be reversed to sit forward-facing. Children up to 65 lbs can sit in the Britax Marathon, giving maximum use out of this key item.
The safety features are really the most comforting aspect of the Britax Marathon; featuring a base with SafeCell Technology, the convertible car seat is designed to compress in the event of a crash, significantly lowering the center of gravity and counteracting the forward rotation of the child seat, which would normally propel the child toward the front of the seat. It also includes Integrated Steel Bars to strengthen the connection to the vehicle, and Side Impact Protection, offering some peace of mind in knowing that your child’s safety is of top priority.
In my experience, the five-point harness straps were great because they didn’t tangle, so getting our baby girl in and out was a breeze, and left us with an uncomplicated transport process. I also found the car seat to be well cushioned and cozy, which was a huge relief when we made an extended trip when taking her big sister up to sleep-away camp. Certified for aircraft travel, this convertible car seat allows us one less hassle at the airport when we finally do make a trip with her (but we’re in no rush- we have some time, given that she can use it up until she’s 65 lbs!). A variety of fabric swatch styles offer a fun aesthetic, which for me was a nice secondary feature, after the knowledge that our precious cargo was indeed safe.
