Daily Diary: I Give Up On Trying To Take The Perfect Photo

I mean… honestly.  With one child, it’s super easy. With two children, it’s manageable. With three children… GOOD LUCK! I was trying take a photo of my kids the other night because they were having so much fun on my bed and Liam just flipped himself around. I thought for a second about telling him to stop acting like a … CHILD, but then I decided this is my reality.

And I went with it.

And if I’m being really honest with you, I’m thinking about framing this shot because this is our life! It’s funny and crazy and entirely out of control. But it’s ours. So, I want to remember it for what it IS and not for the picture perfect / staged “fakeness” that is typically displayed on walls in halls.

In case you were wondering… fakeness is a word today. Run with it.

I don’t know. Call me crazy, but I’m getting tired of all the facade. You go online and everyone is just SO PERRRRFFFFFEEEECCCCCTTTTTT. Their husbands are so fantastic. Their kids are clean and quiet and obedient. Their meals are restaurant-quality and here I am feeling like I’m the only person on the planet who still tries to keep it real.

I write about all different types of things on Facebook. I write about when I struggle with my daughter, when my son smears dog poop on me (that just happened by the way last week), when I feel like I fail at parenting… because it’s part of reality. It’s very RARE that I see similar posts on my feed though. It’s all about how my friends’ spouses are just so over-the-top amazing, and how the kids neatly fall in line.

Wouldn’t it be great if once a week, we had a Truthful Thursday? It’s a day where we just post it how it is!! I swear it would CHANGE THE WORLD!! I could almost stomach the rest of the week if I knew Thursday would offer up some reality.

Anyway — I went off a bit on a tangent. But my point is I am no longer going to sweat taking the perfect picture because life isn’t perfect. Life is blurry and filled with laughs.

  1. I hear you on that – I actually deactivated my Facebook bc I couldn’t deal with how people just put the good. I actually just finished reading Patrick Lencioni’s the three big questions for a frantic family which was a great read and likened a bit of family management to managing a company. Easy read and interesting enough!
