Daily Diary: Got Upgraded To First Class Twice This Weekend And There’s No Turning Back

I recently achieved status on Delta airlines. Silver! I’m not platinum or anything but I’m still celebrating. I’ve been trying for YEARS to get status and last week I received my official card. WOO HOO.

I flew down to Miami on Friday for the Rio 2 premiere (more on that in a bit) and I was upgraded to first class. I couldn’t believe it! My first flight with status and I was upgraded. Out of control!! I had a full meal on real plates and all the room a girl could need.

Coming back to NY, I was not placed on Delta. I was placed on American Airlines. And guess what – somehow I got upgraded AGAIN! Now, I don’t have any STATUS on AA but I still got upgraded which I thought was SO STRANGE. I do have some miles on my membership number but not enough to ever be considered for an upgrade.

But get this… it was on one of their new planes. So, it was almost like International First Class. The seats fully reclined back. They were almost like little pods. I couldn’t believe it. I kept checking my ticket and waiting for someone to realize their mistake. LOL! I kept real quiet – let’s just put it like that!!

As soon as we took off, I reclined my seat back, opened up my blanket and passed out. I skipped the dinner but woke up in time for a warm chocolate chip cookie. They even had a charger for my iPhone! Total magic.

I don’t know how it happened. I don’t know why it happened. But I’m going to have a real hard time looking back at coach. And who am I kidding? This was a total FLUKE!!! I’m not ever going to see that kind of first class again! That’s why I took a picture and sent it to my husband. LOL! People must have thought I was crazy. But I didn’t care. I’m not part of that world. I needed documentation!!

  1. That’s awesome. And warm chocolate chip cookies too?!

The only time I’ve ever been upgraded was when I flew from Chicago to Paris (DTW to ORD to Paris) – a lady pretty much stole my seat and said she needed to sit next to her son, so the flight attendants asked if I would be willing to switch seats. I said yes as long as I could have an aisle. They waited until everyone on the plane was seated and then said since I had been such a patient passenger (ha – I’m very Type A) I could sit in economy plus. Didn’t have *all* the luxuries of first class but definitely had a lot more leg room, which was great for an 8 hour flight :).
