I attended the Fall Into Temptation with Elle and Nine West event in a New Jersey mall yesterday morning. Yes, I went to a mall on a Saturday morning and I survived. Creative director of Nine West, the mastermind behind your favorite Nine West styles, Fred Allard was on hand with Katherine Power and Hillary Kerr of the online magazine, WhoWhatWear.com, to clue us in on the big trends for Fall 2010. Models showed us the coolest shoes and some ideas of how to wear them, in a mini fashion show. Then, Fred Allard himself mingled with customers, showing them how to style the shoes and helping them choose the hottest pair for their personal style. I also got a chance to chat with Fred about his personal favorite from the new collection.
So what are the big trends for Fall?
- Military! Think laced up detailing, high platform heels and grungy colors, like olive green, taupe and tan. Because this trend is a bit rugged, pair with some feminine details to balance the effect.
- Womanly Silhouettes! Mad Men has officially taken over the world. Think accented waistlines, modest hems, lady-like pumps and simple blouses. Fred said that these can be paired with more girly accents, like a school satchel as a pocketbook. He loves the return of the waistline.
- Mixed Textures! Think faux fur with suede shoes and a silky fabric on a skirt. Feel free to mix it up and get adventurous in your layering.
Fred’s favorite is the return of the womanly silhouette. He said that pointy toes are making a comeback this season, as well.
