Elie Tahari’s Spring 2011 collection looked more resort than spring, which can be seen as a good thing. Who doesn’t want to feel like they’re on vacation? Khaki, beige, mustard, gold and powder blue were the color story. Everything, from tops to shirt dresses, were done in beige, with interesting details, like gathers at the waist, drawstrings and tied belts. Skirts are longer this season and this collection was no exception. Apparently, either you wear your skirts and pants knee-length or floor-length or not at all.
One of my favorite items was a pleated gold skirt that hit just at the knee. This was paired with a beige jacket, which caused the gold to look office party-appropriate, quite uncharacteristic of gold. Speaking of office-appropriate, modesty played a major role in this collection. From buttoned up shirts with straight skirts, to simple shirt dresses that covered almost all the goods, this season is definitely all about more is more.
I also loved the knee length shorts. Its a great way to dress up shorts. I also loved the denim on denim look. A pair of flared jeans was paired with a denim shirt for a look that was surprisingly chic and not at all mid-western.
