I was originally feeling skeptical about the change in location from Bryant Park to Lincoln Center for New York Fashion Week, but I cannot deny that there was that same great energy and excitement for fashion as any year before. As I took my first steps into this unknown territory, the staff for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week said, “Welcome to Fashion Week,” but what I heard was, “Welcome home”. I was ecstatic. It was like scoring a rare Beanie Baby in 1996.
After having had the honor to view three consecutive seasons of Farah Angsana’s couture, I feel confident that I can say she does not disappoint. While she generally carries a subtle theme to her line, for instance this year was tribal meets contemporary, there is always something for every taste. As usual, the dresses were immaculate. The work of Farah Angsana is so versatile and experiments with so many colors that you can never pin down the collection to one particular category. There are some recurrent themes in Angsana’s line however. Much like last season, Angsana frequently used embellishments in her designs, incorporating Swarovski crystals into many of her dresses. She manages to pull off elegance rather than gaudy, and although it is obvious that Angsana is pushing her creative boundaries, she makes attire that people from all walks of life would and could wear. One noticeable style that Angsana brings to the Spring 2011 season collection and short, short, short dresses! Hello legs! The dresses vary in length, but when they are short cocktail dresses, they are high on the thigh.
Yet again, I am impressed with Farah Angsana’s collection. You can really see the attention to detail that is put into each and every design. The audience, including myself, were stricken with awe. I can’t wait to see what she presents us with next season!
